NHBC Regional Award Winner
Scottish house builder Mactaggart & Mickel is celebrating the success of one of its Site Managers, who has not only won a National House Building Council (NHBC) Quality Award three years in a row, but has added to this feat by also being the sole winner of the Best Site in Scotland award in the medium category.
Paddy Malone, from Greenan in Ayrshire, achieved the Best Site in Scotland award for the company's Castle Square development, also in Greenan, and he won a Seal of Excellence for this development too.
There is only one winner in Scotland for the Best Site medium category, and the award is a notable first for Paddy and Mactaggart & Mickel. Paddy will now attend an awards ceremony in London in the New Year with the other regional winners from across the UK, to discover which one of them is set to become the recipient of the NHBC Supreme Award.
During months of intensive judging, individuals who consistently demonstrate the highest levels of expertise and outstanding commitment to their work are duly rewarded with a Pride in the Job Award.
Paddy, 43, has ensured that Mactaggart & Mickel's Ayrshire developments have been on a winning streak over the past few years. He first received a Pride in the Job Quality Award in 1999 as an acknowledgment of the work he carried out at the company's prestigious Barassie Links development in Troon. A year later he followed this up at Montfode Estate in Ardrossan; he also received a Seal of Excellence Award for this site - only 100 are awarded UK wide.
Mactaggart & Mickel's outstanding Castle Square development in Greenan is an exceptional development situated in close proximity to the picturesque town of Ayr. Currently, only a few properties remain at this site, including the two-bedroom Eriskay bungalow, three-bedroom Westray bungalow and a three-bedroom semi-detached Lismore. Prices range from £85,940 (Standard finish), to £119,975.
Paddy said: " I was up against 30 Quality Award winners to get through to the next two categories and I think it was more a sense of relief when my name was announced for the seal of excellence and then the Best Site in Scotland. These awards pay testimony to the superb team and excellent general foreman I have the privilege to work alongside, and I would like to thank them all for their commitment and professionalism to the job."
A long serving member of staff with more than 26 years of Mactaggart & Mickel experience behind him, Paddy started as an apprentice joiner eventually becoming a Site Manager 13 years ago. Married, with a grown-up son Kenneth and daughter Kerry, Paddy and wife Moira live at Mactaggart & Mickel's Castle View development in Greenan - where Paddy like to relax by enjoying a few rounds of golf at St Cuthbert's Golf Club in Prestwick and supporting his favourite football team.
Paddy is now working as Site Manager at the company's prestigious Perceton development, The Grange, on the out skirts of Irvine. The Grange, which offers a mix of four and five bedroom detached villas, and spacious three-bedroom detached bungalows, has been subject to a great deal of interest since work began at it earlier this year after the house builder discovered fragments of pottery of significant archaeological importance. Prices are from £124,995.
If Paddy proves true to his record then The Grange could be next year's recipient of an NHBC Quality Award.
