Mactaggart & Mickel triumphs at NHBC Awards
Mactaggart & Mickel is celebrating a exceptional achievement – as Site Manager Paddy Malone has successfully scooped a National House-Building Council (NHBC) Regional Award (Medium Category) for the second year running.
Aside from this, the company also received two NHBC ‘Seal of Excellence’ awards at a ceremony held at Glasgow’s Hilton Hotel. Paddy Malone was presented with the Regional Award (Medium category) and a ‘Seal of Excellence’ for Mactaggart & Mickel’s Castle Square development in Ayrshire. Site Manager Kenny Johnston was the recipient of the second ‘Seal of Excellence’ for his work at Mactaggart & Mickel’s Eskbank Court development near Dalkeith.
The much-coveted NHBC awards are the highest accolades given by the housing industry. NHBC awards are presented to individuals who have consistently demonstrated the highest standards of quality and commitment in their work. The vigorous year-long judging process includes scrutinising and inspecting every area involved in the construction of a development – from the materials used to the landscape finish of a site.
Last year, Paddy Malone was the toast of Mactaggart & Mickel when he won the top UK accolade in the building trade - the NHBC Supreme Award (Medium Build Category). Paddy is clearly using all his years of skill and experience to educate fellow colleagues and it is evidently working, following the host of recent awards won by Mactaggart & Mickel Site Managers. Paddy will now be put forward for the NHBC UK Supreme Award finals 2002, which will be held at the beginning of next year.
Only 10 ‘Seal of Excellence’ awards are presented in Scotland out of a total of 100 UK wide, which are decided from 400 nominations. Therefore, it was an achievement in itself for Mactaggart & Mickel to be rewarded with two and follows on from the company’ success earlier this year when it won a total of four NHBC ‘Pride in the Job’ Quality Awards. In addition to Kenny and Paddy these awards were won by George Dow, at the companies Mallots View development in Newton Mearns, and Ian Smith for Hillpark Brae, Edinburgh.
Mactaggart & Mickel’s unrivalled success is a tribute to the company’s attention to detail and pride of workmanship, summed up by Bruce Mickel, Director at Mactaggart & Mickel. He said: “ This achievement represents a landmark day in Mactaggart & Mickel’s 77-year history. We have always prided ourselves as a company that is steadfast in providing the highest standards of workmanship, which is underlined continually in our staff training programmes.
“We have won several NHBC awards over the past few years, which is a strong indication that our industry peers have recognised our level of dedication. However, to follow our four ‘Quality Awards’ with the Regional Award and two ‘Seal of Excellence’ tributes is outstanding. I congratulate the Site Managers involved, as well as their on-site colleagues, for this exceptional achievement.”
