Polnoon, Eaglesham

Mactaggart & Mickel and East Renfrewshire Council are working in partnership with the Scottish Government to deliver the 'successful places' design agenda. The most successful places, the ones that flourish socially and economically, tend to have certain qualities in common. First, they have a distinct identity created in response to the local context. Second, the spaces are designed to be safe and visually engaging. Third, they are spatially permeable and easy to move around, especially on foot. Fourth, visitors feel a sense of arrival and welcome.  The Polnoon project will not only deliver new, high quality housing for Eaglesham, but importantly, create a new vibrant neighbourhood based on the needs of pedestrians, not vehicles. The project team led by award winning architects Proctor and Matthews have been working in close collaboration and it marks a new approach to turning ‘good policy advice’ into ‘development on the ground’. The design of this new residential development is focused around a new approach to the design of the public realm space.

The site partially sits in the conservation area off Moor Road and Kirktonmoor Road at the western end of the Eaglesham Village.  The development proposes the construction of 121 new dwellings (including affordable housing), extending between one and three storeys in height, together with the provision of new children’s play areas, associated car parking, landscaping and infrastructure works. A new access is proposed off Moor Road and also a partial upgrading of Kirktonmoor Road. The proposal also includes for traffic calming measures along Moor Road and a reconfiguration of the roundabout to Moor Road, Polnoon Street and Montgomery Street to a road junction.
