Mactaggart and Mickel, part of City Legacy Consortium - Announced Preferred Bidders for 2014 Commonweath Games Village.

Glasgow City Council announced today that the City Legacy Consortium has been recommended as the preferred bidder to build the Athletes Village for the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Dalmarnock in the East End of Glasgow.

Mactaggart and Mickel will join with developers and contractors CCG, Cruden and W H Malcolm to build 700 homes and a 120 bed care home as part of Phase 1 of the project and a further 765 homes in Phase 2. Other partners involved include Bid and Project Managers Davis Langdon and Masterplanners RMJM. Planning permission will be sought in February 2010 and work is due to commence in Autumn 2010.

This innovative project will not only showcase the new face of the East End of Glasgow to a world-wide audience during the Commonwealth Games, it will also transform Dalmarnock to become a much sought-after riverside residential area.

Ed Monaghan said:

"Mactaggart and Mickel has been involved in many of the city's significant events, from building the Milk Bar at the Garden Festival to the award winning home at Homes for the Future in 1999. We are pleased to be involved in making another lasting mark in Glasgow's regeneration. The site will be a great legacy for Glasgow, both at the time of the Games by putting Glasgow on the map and afterwards as a fantastic place to live and work."
