Mactaggart & Mickel have been involved in the Lennoxtown area for over 40 years and had the opportunity to work with the NHS in the redevelopment of Lennox Castle Hospital located at the foot of the picturesque Campsie Hills. Our Masterplan drew upon the sensitivity of the landscape and historical associations of the site to create a local distinctiveness and sense of place.

Our first phase, Campsie View formed the essential core of the Masterplanned development setting the standards and high quality of design for the subsequent phases. In total 76 units were proposed for the initial phase with a mix of terraced and detached units ranging from one bed to five bedrooms.

Key elements of the urban design for this phase are:

• A quality and direct access into the site from the new entrance road and bridge.
   
• Retention of the large specimen trees forming the boundary to the existing road network on the site.
   
• Retention of trees wherever possible and augmented the existing landscape through further landscaping.
   
• Recreating the village green as a focal point to the development.
   
• The introduction of a three storey element, directly opposite the site entrance to provide a focal point on entry to the site.
   
• The use of a single storey house to form a “gatehouse” to the entrance.
   
• The use of terraced housing and linked blocks to form a traditional village style and enclosure around the new green.
   
• Proposed footpath and cycle networks linking into the subsequent phases and Lennoxtown.
