Case Studies

Case Study: Stuart Gillespie

Stuart Gillespie is the Site Manager at Mactaggart & Mickel's development at Greenan, Ayr. He began his career as an Apprentice with the company at the age of 16.

Stuart has won a variety of awards in the small to medium builder category at the National House-Building Council (NHBC) awards. In early 2012, following a rigorous judging process, the NHBC named Stuart the UK's Supreme Winner in the "Medium Builder" category in the Housebuilding industry Oscars - the NHBC's 'Pride in the Job' awards, beating off competition from 18,000 other site managers. The award recognised Stuart's commitment to building the very best quality new homes and managing his site to an exceptional standard.

Case Study: Jason Starritt

Jason is a General Foreman at our Cherrybank site in Newton Mearns and began his career with us in 2003 as a Labourer. Jason proved that he had the potential to progress in the business and was put forward to undertake a Ganger Development Programme and thereafter was promoted to the role of Ganger.

Having successfully undertaken the Ganger role Jason was then placed on the GF Succession Training Programme where over a period of time he was provided with training and development to undertake the role of General Foreman. The development covered a number of different areas from training courses to on-site training with a Site Manager.

Jason successfully completed the programme and was promoted to General Foreman in 2010, and he continues to develop and grow in this role.

Case Study: Lynsey Murray

Lynsey Murray is a Finance Manager based in our Glasgow office.  Lynsey started with us as a Finance Assistant in 2006 and very quickly demonstrated that she had the capability, motivation and drive to progress within the business.

Over a period of three years, with lots of hard work Lynsey achieved full membership for The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) which involved passing a number of exams together with the submission of a case study. The Company supported Lynsey throughout this time by paying for the CIMA professional body’s study courses and exams and allowing paid study leave.

During this period Lynsey was promoted to Assistant Management Accountant, then in 2009 to Management Accountant. In April 2012 Lynsey took over the role of Finance Manager, with the management of the Finance team and the responsibility for direct reporting to the Board.
