Customer Testimonials

"I always liked the idea of a townhouse and when I saw East Craigs advertised through ESPC the fact that it offered this property style attracted me straight away. We've settled right in and the layout works really well for us."

Emma Davidson and her family have taken a step up the housing ladder with Mactaggart & Mickel Homes and have hit the heady heights thanks to their new three storey family home at East Craigs in Edinburgh.

Emma, her husband Colin and their four year old son Liam were staying in a flat in the Edinburgh area and were keen to stay local when they decided to look for a larger property.

Emma said: "I always liked the idea of a townhouse and when I saw East Craigs advertised through ESPC the fact that it offered this property style attracted me straight away.

"We've settled right in and the layout works really well for us. The kitchen and lounge are on the ground floor and we also have a separate living area on the middle floor. When friends first come round they always comment on the unusual layout but they soon get used to it."

Moving to the property from a two-bedroom flat, the kitchen was particularly important to Emma. She chose stylish glossy black units to create a contemporary kitchen fit for a showhome.

"Our kitchen is the heart of our home; it's a really special family area. During the day we literally live on the ground floor.

"Having such a nice kitchen makes you want to use it more. Liam really enjoys cooking and our favourite thing to do on a rainy day is to bake cakes together and get nice and messy. It's really practical too – when I'm preparing dinner he can sit safely on his beanbag in the living area watching TV.

"In the evenings we move to the upstairs lounge to wind down. It's a chilled out family area away from the bustle of the kitchen – and the messy dishes!"

The second floor is also home to Liam's bedroom and the family bathroom – or Liam's bathroom! - with the master bedroom and second bedroom on the top floor.

"When we moved in we said Liam could use the family bathroom next to his bedroom as his own so when he is giving visitors the grand tour he loves nothing more than showing them ‘his' bathroom!"

East Craigs is just four miles to the west of Edinburgh city centre and a few minutes drive to the city bypass making it ideal for commuters and perfectly located for Emma, who works for RBS, and Colin, a manager with Morrisons.

"The development is only around ten minutes' drive to both our workplaces. Schools are obviously important to us for our son; we can see the local primary school from our window and are just five minutes away from a really good high school."

The young family bought an Etive townhouse which offers generously proportioned accommodation over three floors. The ground floor has a lovely open plan kitchen and lounge, perfect for everyday family life and informal entertaining. The third bedroom, family bathroom and a second living space which can be used as a lounge or even fourth bedroom complete the second level. Moving up to the top floor, there are two further bedrooms including the master bedroom with en-suite – the crowning glory of this fantastic family home.

Emma couldn't agree more: "We would absolutely recommend townhouse living. It suits us perfectly and feels very much like home."

"The house was completely ready to move into with lots of additional touches that just made it all the easier. All the things that you don’t think about, everything from the curtain ties and bathroom mirrors, to the attic ladder, everything was already there."

When Andrew and Helen Watson decided to move back to Scotland after 17 years in Somerset they expected to face a stressful move and a long settling in time. However from their first visit to Mactaggart & Mickel Homes’ Campsie Village site, their love affair with their new home in the country has been plain sailing and it’s just the beginning.

Retired security officer Andrew said: "We first visited the site in December 2009. The winter was harsh and only the main roads were passable. At that point only a few of the houses were occupied and many were still under construction, but it was clear from the on-site processes we saw that Mactaggart & Mickel Homes really care about what they do."

Andrew’s wife Helen added: "We knew we wanted to move back up to Scotland to be near our family, but at that point our house in Somerset was proving difficult to sell. We made sure to keep in touch with the sales staff at Campsie Village and the moment we were able to commit, we did."

Moving home in any situation can be stressful, but when you’re leaving a home of seventeen years and moving over 400 miles north like Andrew and Helen there can be many difficulties.

Helen said: "We were expecting it to be a tough few weeks but Mactaggart & Mickel Homes made the move so smooth for us.

"The house was completely ready to move into with lots of additional touches that just made it all the easier. All the things that you don’t think about, everything from the curtain ties and bathroom mirrors, to the attic ladder, everything was already there."

Andrew added: "The quality in the house is superb. Their attention to detail is most impressive and the little things like the provision of external lighting at each entrance confirmed our first impressions that they are builders who really care."

Their new four bed Arran is completely different to their bungalow in Somerset, but Helen remains convinced that the pair made the right decision: "The house is more spacious than we planned on buying, but the intelligent design means we don’t feel like we’re rattling around at all.

"Having four bedrooms is ideal for when our family and friends come to visit. I can’t fault it; it feels like we’ve been here for months."

"The great thing about having a brand new home is the peace of mind that comes with it. All Mactaggart & Mickel Homes' properties come with a ten year NHBC guarantee, which means we know we won't have to face any unexpected costs, maintenance problems or high fuel bills."

Being close to the grandchildren is a priority for many new grandparents, but for Robert and Sheena living nearly 300 miles from their children's growing broods the issue had only one solution.

"Our young grandchildren were our main reason for buying a property in Edinburgh, we want to be near them as they grow up and be a big part of their lives," said Robert.

Their search for the perfect property began last autumn, scouring the Edinburgh market to find the right fit in terms of price, design and of course location.

Robert said: "We couldn't find what we were looking for in the centre of town so began to look further afield. We looked at a few new developments but we found something wrong with all of them whether it was the design, the price or the location.

"A friend said to me that hunting for a house was like looking for a partner; you have rough parameters of what you're looking for but only when you see it do you know for sure. This is what it was like with us at Hillpark: there was no down side."

Our Hillpark development, in the affluent Blackhall area, is where the retired couple decided on a Dee style apartment. The Dee; a chic two bedroom apartment with flexible open plan living space, en-suites in both bedrooms and Parisienne balcony was an instant hit. Meanwhile the development's prime location just a short journey from the city centre and a stone's throw from the picturesque Corstorphine Hill meant their labrador, Katie, was also a happy customer.

Fitting out their second home from the other side of the UK, Robert and Sheena were surprised at how unproblematic the process was. Robert said: "The sales assistant at Hillpark, Carol, was a superb help; I couldn't praise her highly enough. Everything we asked for was done with an attentive nature.

"The move has been remarkably smooth. We made use of Mactaggart & Mickel Homes' decorating options to personalise our home while we were still down in Birmingham. We chose our carpet, the tiles and even the kitchen fittings and all ran smoothly even though we were some distance away.

"The great thing about having a brand new home is the peace of mind that comes with it. All Mactaggart & Mickel Homes' properties come with a ten year NHBC guarantee, which means we know we won't have to face any unexpected costs, maintenance problems or high fuel bills."

"Buying our own home would have been a struggle without Mactaggart & Mickel Homes' help.Their shared equity scheme meant that we could afford the kind of home we really wanted, while the sales assistants on site were honest and helpful from our very first meeting, which meant we could make informed decisions and always felt well looked after."

When Chris Campbell & Victoria Moffat returned to Scotland after travelling the world together they had to build their lives from scratch. One year later and they're settling into their very own Mactaggart & Mickel home in Campsie Village with even more adventures just around the corner.

Chris, a service co-ordinator with the British Red Cross, said:

"Buying our own home would have been a struggle without Mactaggart & Mickel Homes' help.Their shared equity scheme meant that we could afford the kind of home we really wanted, while the sales assistants on site were honest and helpful from our very first meeting, which meant we could make informed decisions and always felt well looked after."

Campsie Village is perfectly located in an area of great natural beauty and tranquillity near the foot of the Campsie Hills, ideal for lovers of the outdoors like Chris, Victoria and their dog Oscar.

"Being in the countryside, but with the great transport links, means having the best of both worlds. There are great walks that we can take Oscar on and fantastic local amenities. Being close to Glasgow is great for work, but out here we have the peace and quiet too," said Chris.

Chris and Victoria's Arran home is a four-bedroom detached property with a spacious kitchen and stylish dining room with French doors leading to a good sized garden. Upstairs offers four bedrooms, each with a fitted wardrobe, while the master comes with the luxury of an en-suite shower.

"The house is ideal for us now and for our future. Buying new meant that we avoided much of the hassle that can come with second hand homes.

"The NHBC ten year warranty with every Mactaggart & Mickel Homes property gives us peace of mind. We know that we're not going to have to pay out for any unforeseen problems in the near future and can focus on adding to what we have already and our family's future."

“Being a first time buyer getting the property of the size I wanted was going to be difficult. With Mactaggart and Mickel’s My First Home scheme it meant I had the opportunity to get something that was the size that I wanted within my price range. It was fantastic."

"The staff were very helpful in recommending what to go for and what different things were within my price range. I’d definitely recommend them to anyone, especially first time buyers looking for a quality home. The service and standards have been great.”

"The location is great and we love the hills and scenery nearby and the feeling of privacy in the development was a big pull. Mactaggart and Mickel's planning and design is very family-orientated. We know they're good builders and that we could trust them to deliver."

"The house was a very spacious layout. The smallest room can hold a double bed so we don't feel short-changed on size. We also have a separate dining room and good-sized garden - that was a big factor, it will give Jessica plenty of space to run around in."

“It's everything I imagined my dream home to be."

Barry & Kate Puncher, Campsie Village

“We were originally going to look for another older property which we could potentially renovate but when we heard Mactaggart & Mickel Homes was building in Barassie we went along to visit the show home. The layout of the house really sold it to us, particularly the spacious kitchen diner, plus we were gaining an extra bedroom.

“The new house has good double glazing, a brand new boiler that is efficient and reliable and the loft is very well insulated.

“The whole experience of buying our new home has been great. The sales staff were very communicative and kept in touch throughout the whole process; I couldn’t fault them. This is our third new build home and it’s by far the best experience we’ve had.”

“There's only about 12 years we haven't lived in one of their homes. Throughout my life, it's been Mactaggart & Mickel – it's quite a good recommendation when you think about it.

"We decided this property was ideal because it's a great house and we have a garden and great views. We liked the spacious feel of the house, that's what really caught our eye. Visitors are really surprised by how big the rooms are compared with some builders.

"We always wanted to live on the coast and we settled for Largs. The location of the Rise is superb - there's a real community feel and we're close to the town centre. And the quality of the house is great. We've had no problems at all. The finish is superb and the heating system is brilliant. It's really well insulated and the house is still nice and warm, even when the heating has been off for a while.”
