Community Consultation

We received planning permission in principle at the end of 2010 for 500 houses, a retail parade and a 60 bed care home. The outline application included the submission of a comprehensive Masterplan and Design Brief document, as well as reports on Ecology, Community Consultation, Transport and Archaeology. In January 2011 we received detailed planning consent for our first phase of developnment. The proposals include much needed private and affordable housing, a convenience store, a care home and loads of public open space.

The Masterplan seeks to achieve the following objectives in developing the site at Greenan:

Create a quality and well designed residential environment with appropriate areas of open space provision.
Ensure that a new gateway to Ayr is provided.
Take account of pedestrian and cycle access points.
Create new bus links for local people.
Provide a range and choice of homes in terms of design and affordability.
Construct a quality new care home for the elderly population in the surrounding area.

Mactaggart & Mickel have a long history of involving the local community in their development proposals. In November 2007 we undertook an extensive community engagement process. We believe it is important to engage early in the process to ensure that local opinions are taken into account. This involved the distribution of 3,500 consultation leaflets via the local newspaper. The leaflet included information on the development proposals for the site, details of our planned public exhibition and a pre-paid response form which invited comments. The public exhibition took place over a week day evening and weekend to ensure we attracted as wide a crowd as possible. Display boards highlighted the draft Masterplan proposals with Mactaggart & Mickel representatives on hand to offer further insight.
