The award winning family housebuilder Mactaggart & Mickel Group has announced that they will be sponsoring the talented North Ayrshire swimmer Jordan Hughes. The sponsorship package will support Jordan as he sets his sights on achieving qualification for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.
Jordan has won gold medals in both the 100m and 200m freestyle four years running at the British Age Group Championships. At the 2011 competition he was confirmed as the most successful Scottish Age Group swimmer. The highlight of his participation was his 200m freestyle time, which broke the Scottish record. He also recently won gold in the 200m butterfly, silver in 100 butterfly, 5th in the 400 freestyle and 7th in the 200 individual medley.
Jordan is highly dedicated to competitive swimming and trains both in and out of the pool for over 16 hours a week, organising this allaround his school work. With this level of preparation, sponsorship can play an important role in supporting elite athletes, as the cost of training, kit and competing quickly mounts up.
Mactaggart & Mickel Group are currently involved in the City Legacy project in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games, which will see delivery of an attractive urban village in Dalmarnock to provide accommodation for athletes, leaving over 700 complete homes and flats for the area once the Games are finished.
Joanne Casey, sales and marketing director at Mactaggart & Mickel commented: “It is our privilege to support such a committed and talented swimmer as Jordan. He is a fantastic role model for aspiring Scottish athletes and we look forward to watching his progress in his events and wish him the best of luck.”
Jordan Hughes added: “This is a big boost for me as I train towards my goal of competing in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. I would like to thank the team from Mactaggart & Mickel Group for all the good wishes and generous support.”
