Planning consent was granted in 2007 for a residential development consisting of 132 flats of which 20 were to be affordable.

Since our proposals were granted planning permission there has been a dramatic change in the property market particularly within the residential sector. We have been exploring other uses which are compatible with the development brief for the area and adjoining land uses.

We indicated to Edinburgh City Council in May 2011 our intention to submit a revised planning application substituting part of the previous housing on the northern most side for student accommodation. At this stage it is envisage that the student block will be leased to one of the Edinburgh Universities or a specialist student accommodation provider, and as such would be managed and controlled by them.  

A number of local residents attended a public consultation held towards the end of May 2011, feedback was generally positive with most of the community are keen to see the site developed. A mixed use proposal was on balance seen as an acceptable way to develop this city centre site.
