Two of our team members paid special visits last week to two of the beneficiaries of our Building Communities Fund, to find out more about the good work that our donations are helping to support.
St Martin’s Community Resource Centre in Edinburgh offers a welcoming and inclusive community space with services including self-help groups, fitness clubs, activities and events for local residents of all ages. Our much- needed contribution of funds will go towards the £7,000 required to install a new accessible toilet and baby changing facility to ensure the centre is catering for users of all abilities. Our Sales Consultant Lynn McDonald, based at our Barnton Park Wood and Lockhart Woods developments in Edinburgh, was greeted at the Centre by Rev John Conway, Director at St Martin’s Community Resource Centre, plus Rev David Warnes and some of the members of the parent and toddler group – just some of the local residents who rely on the Centre for peer support, activities and invaluable services to learn new skills and make positive changes in their lives.
Young Enterprise Scotland who are based in Thornliebank next to our soon-to-be-launched Milverton Grange development, works to inspire and educate young people through enterprise, particularly those most disengaged from traditional employment and education, and helping help them work towards qualifications, employment and future careers.
Our funding will go towards supporting the group’s Pathways programme for young people, which combines practical experience and personal development to improve their work readiness. Our Finance director Paul McAninch went along to meet Geoff Leask, Chief Executive of Young Enterprise Scotland, and some of the young people already benefitting
from the scheme by participating in the centre’s garden project.
