“It’s all about working with your team and rallying the troops – that’s what makes everyone pull together.” Mike Loughran’s view of the world may sound simplistic, but this down-to earth approach has secured him not just the title of Mactaggart & Mickel Site Manager of the Year but an NHBC award.
Being named Site Manager of the Year came as a real surprise for Mike, who has been in charge at Hillpark Brae for four years. A modest Mike, who started as a labourer in the 1970s and has worked his way up says: “I’m just doing my job and want to do it as well as possible. I’ve also won an NHBC quality award. But it’s not just all down to me – our standards are top-notch and the people I work with are fantastic.”

Mike, who lives in Edinburgh and enjoys keeping fit and sport, gets great satisfaction from knowing that the people are getting the very best quality and customer service. “This is something that gives everyone on the site a buzz,” says Mike, “and it’s great that youngsters are already thinking like this.
“Mactaggart & Mickel has been a brilliant company to work for. I’ve worked for some great site managers over the years and learned from them. That’s the company’s way – mentor people and help them develop new skills. There’s always something new to learn, even for the old-timers like me.”
