Renowned builder secures hat trick with Homes for Scotland

Respected Scottish homebuilder Mactaggart & Mickel has triumphed for the third year in succession at the prestigious Homes for Scotland Awards, having scooped the Customer Service Individual Award and also a commendation in the Customers Services Company Strategy Award, which is voted for by homebuyers.

"It is a tremendous achievement to receive these two Homes For Scotland accolades. It underlines that Mactaggart & Mickel's commitment to its Customer Excellence procedures is being recognised and rewarded by our customers and industry peers," said Derek Mickel, Chairman, Mactaggart & Mickel.

Mactaggart & Mickel's Customer Excellence programme was developed internally in an effort to meet the requirements of its customers. This is a company wide management training programme, which includes all employees from Board level to site staff. In underpins the company's daily ethos of not only meeting its customers' expectations, but also exceeding these.

Mactaggart & Mickel Sales Consultant Deborah Smith-Campbell was the recipient of the Homes For Scotland Customer Service Individual Award. Based at the company's Bo'ness development, The Drum, Deborah has worked at Mactaggart & Mickel for four years and was delighted to be awarded her prize by Robin Harper, MSP.

"The Customer Service Individual Award is a credit to Deborah's excellent customer care skills. This year, Mactaggart & Mickel celebrates its 80th Anniversary as one of Scotland's leading homebuilders. The Homes for Scotland Awards serve as a fitting tribute to our expertise and efforts in continuing to produce superior handcrafted homes, and also our ability to provide an exceptional service to our clients," commented Derek Mickel.

Previously the Homes For Scotland Awards focused on the design aspect of developments (Homes for Scotland Design Awards), which was achieved by Mactaggart & Mickel in 2004 in the Best Brownfield New Build Site Category for its Midlothian development, Eskbank Court.

The company also secured a Homes For Scotland Commendation in the Greenfield and Suburban category in 2004 for its Ayrshire developments - The Grange and Walled Garden. Prior to this, Mactaggart & Mickel was the winner of a Homes For Scotland Design Award 2003, again for Best Greenfield site, for The Drum in Bo'ness.

At the beginning of this year, Mactaggart & Mickel reported a buoyant period of growth for the company, with a 22% increase in turnover to £28.58m for year to 30th April 2004. The company, which currently employs 282 staff, expects to build in excess of 200 new homes in 2005 predominately across Scotland's central belt and Ayrshire.
