Two key employees of the family-owned homebuilder Mactaggart & Mickel were recognised for their talent and achievements at the recent Homes for Scotland Awards.
Liz Farrell, land manager at Mactaggart & Mickel, and Paddy Malone, the company’s contracts manager, were presented with awards during a ceremony which reflected the challenges presented by the current economic climate and acknowledged that it will be the efforts of those remaining at the industry’s core which will deliver the new homes Scotland needs.
Paddy, who won the Construction Award, was singled out for going the extra mile to ensure the highest standards of construction and maintained across the company.
Liz, winner of the Environment Award, was honoured for her efforts in minimizing the impact of developments on the environment and increasing energy efficiency. Liz was behind the recent high-profile launch of the most sustainable home in Scotland built by a commercial housebuilder, designed to save 75 per cent a year on heating bills, at Mactaggart & Mickel’s Balgarth Gardens development in Ayrshire.
Andrew Mickel, director of Mactaggart & Mickel, said of the awards success: “We are especially proud of this recognition, as these are the two areas for which we are best known – historically, Mactaggart & Mickel is known for the quality and craftsmanship of its homes and more recently, we have gained wide interest for our efforts in moving towards zero carbon homes.
“Liz and Paddy have been key in both these areas and they both have the backing of Mactaggart & Mickel’s dedicated and enthusiastic staff who must also share the honours for their hard work.”
