    Village handover begins on schedule

    Posted by Ed Monaghan

On Monday 13th January the City Legacy Consortium officially began the process of handing over the award-winning Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Athletes Village to the Games Organising Committee. The handover of the 700 units within the Village (of which Mactaggart & Mickel Group has delivered 225) will take place in a number of phases over the next two months.

During the Commonwealth Games, being staged in Glasgow from 23rd July to 3rd August this year, the Village will provide accommodation for 6,500 athletes and Games officials. Following the Games, the units will be handed back to City Legacy to be transformed into vibrant new neighbourhoods with a range of two, three and four bedroom homes, including apartments and semi-detached and detached homes, plus open green spaces and fantastic local amenities.

The development has already scooped three industry awards, for Best Regeneration, Green Initiative and Sustainable development (click here for more details) due to its innovative design, and advanced power, heating and hot water systems which are expected to lower residents’ energy bills by up to 40%.

Interest around the Village development has already been high, with almost 1,700 prospective buyers registering their details with City Legacy Homes. The first Early Bird Options on the properties will be taken at the end of January, and the showhomes will be opened to the public in early February.
