Our charity outdoor swim challenge on Friday 19th August was a massive success, with our dedicated swimmers so far raising £1,339 for the Beatson Cancer Charity!
The challenge took place in unseasonal rainy weather at the outdoor pool of the David Lloyd Club in Anniesland, starting out with a target distance of 8km. Backed up by our sponsored champion outdoor swimmer Mark Deans, our team of nine swimmers far exceeded expectations (including their own!) and this, combined with the efforts of David Lloyd Club members who volunteered to join in the challenge, meant the final distance swum was a staggering 1,393 lengths, or 27,860m!
That’s about equivalent to crossing the Strait of Gibraltar twice!
We were delighted to be joined on the day by fundraiser Joyce Ross of the Beatson Cancer Charity, a charitable organisation which aims to support and enhance the treatment, care and wellbeing of current, former and future cancer patients and their families,
