Tips for getting to know your new neighbourhood

When you settle in to your new dream Mactaggart & Mickel home, you’ll likely find yourself wanting to spend all your time in your home relaxing, entertaining and enjoying family time together! But of course you’ll also be keen to explore your new neighbourhood and find out what’s happening in your local community.
Moving to a new place opens up a world of possibilities for you and your family to experience new activities and find a whole new circle of friends and acquaintances. Below are a few suggestions, from some of our knowledgeable Sales Consultants, of great places to visit near to our developments, where you will be sure to receive a warm welcome.


Heads of Ayr Farm Park - this fun park is just two miles from our Greenan Views development with both outdoor and indoor activities for all ages, including bumper boats, quad biking and animals to befriend, from mice to llamas. The park also holds a variety of events throughout the year… 

The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum – as well as being a fascinating place for literature enthusiasts to hear talks and share their appreciation of the Scottish bard, the museum includes plenty of hands-on and interactive exhibits to keep the kids interested, plus an outside play area. 

Citadel Leisure Centre – with three swimming pools, a large gym, squash courts and more, the leisure centre is the perfect place for you to sign up to a range of classes including yoga, aquafit and pilates. Why not also take advantage of their school holiday club activities and galas? 

 


If you choose to make your new home at Lethington Gardens in Haddington, you’ll find that the place to be is Haddington Farmers’ Market which takes place on the last Saturday of the month and is a hugely popular and friendly gathering place for the local community. The market offers a fantastic array of local produce and crafts, and you’ll always find the stallholders keen to chat and share some of their tantalising food and drink samples. 

The Haddington Bridge Centre is a long-established community centre in the town which provides a meeting place for a huge variety of activities for all ages and interests… Whether your interests lie in music, quilting, motorbikes or martial arts, you can be sure to meet some like-minded people! There is also a University of the Third Age programme available with academic opportunities from Philosophy to the Apple Mac. 

Newton Mearns is home to two of our current stunning developments - Stewart Gardens and Broom Grove, and you’ll find ample opportunities to meet up with new friends and neighbours in this sought-after suburb.

Parklands Hotel and Country Club is an enormously popular hub for local activity and events, with a gym, pool bar and bistro and space to host parties and celebrations year-round.

Nearby Eastwood Leisure Centre also offers fitness classes and multiple swimming pools, as well as a spacious theatre and art workshops.


Not forgetting Rouken Glen Park, which a beautiful, dog-friendly green space and was voted the UK’s Best Park in 2015. The Park hosts a number of regular activities and events including walking groups and educational programmes for young people to learn more about biodiversity.
