Mactaggart & Mickel present Merry Mearns on Sunday 28 November, the Christmas extravaganza set to take over Fairweather Park. Making the festive season one to remember for all visiting the town, the inaugural event includes the chance to see the skies above Newton Mearns lit up with an audacious festive firework finale.
Joanne Casey, Director at Mactaggart & Mickel, said: “We are thrilled to be able to support such an exciting initiative. This is the first large scale Christmas event in Newton Mearns and is a wonderful opportunity for local businesses, organisations and residents to come together to enjoy some festive cheer.
“Mactaggart & Mickel have a proud history of supporting people in the communities where we are building new homes, reflecting our family ethos. We’ve had a presence in Newton Mearns for many years and care deeply about playing our part in making a positive difference, which we are sure Merry Mearns will do.”
The event will feature a Christmas market in front of the Avenue shopping centre, live entertainment and funfair rides. There will also be a chance to visit Santa and, children on the nice list might even receive a gift.
Local community group, My Mearns, who are responsible for the event hope this is just the start of large-scale community events in the town. Spokesperson for the group, Saira Kareem, said: “It’s incredibly exciting to bring events like this to our town. Newton Mearns has always looked on while experiences like this happen in Glasgow, Paisley and even Clarkston and Barrhead– so we can’t wait to have an event like this we can call our own.
“We’re incredibly proud to live here and want to do everything we can to shout about how great a place ‘the Mearns’ is to shop, visit and live.”
Mactaggart & Mickel presents Merry Mearns begins at 12noon on Sunday 28 November with the Christmas market, live entertainment and Santa’s Grotto staying open until 5pm on the grounds of The Avenue shopping centre. The fireworks finale will blast off from Fairweather

Michelle McCabe, Centre Manager at the Avenue said: “The Avenue is part of the community here in Newton Mearns, so to play our part in hosting the first Christmas event is an honour – especially after such a tough 18-months. We can’t wait to kick off the festive celebrations with what is gearing up to be a really positive event for the town.”
