Haddington boasts excellence in many areas. From the early days it has built rich historical significance and is now established as a genteel town set in agricultural countryside surroundings. With an assortment of great schools, beautiful historic buildings, and modern amenities in a quiet area, it offers an ideal balance for those looking for a peaceful home without being too isolated. Mactaggart & Mickel are a great fit for the area with a stellar range of homes built to a premium quality, and our 5 bedroom Mackenzie show home sets the stage for what you can expect from us.

From the outside, the Mackenzie has a striking design with lots of large windows, and a mix of white render and sandstone brick. There is also detached single garage and driveway, as well as a garden to the front and rear of the home.

Stepping into the home, the hallway is welcoming and warm. It feels very open and traditional, thanks to its expansive length and curved staircase. The colour scheme is very relaxed, with pastel grey walls and flooring. A full height curtain hangs proudly over the front door, where there is also a large window filling the area with light throughout the day. There are also wall mirrors accenting the space and mimicking windows. Another highlight is the fixtures, as we see the solid wooden banister and oak effect doors.

Off the hallway we come to the first of two reception rooms. This one is the more subdued of the two, as the other is off the large kitchen and dining area. As such, it makes a great private space to be used as you wish. We have dressed it as a cosy and comfortable hub for work and play. To the back of the room there are two matching individual computer desks, potentially the perfect base of operations for a home business, or a quiet space for the kids to concentrate on their homework. Meanwhile there’s also a large L-shaped couch running the length of the wall and a TV, inviting you to get comfortable and relax with a nice cold drink in your hand. There’s space for both in this one room alone.

Moving on to the next reception room, this one is the larger of the two and has dual aspect windows, creating an impactful setting. A massive area rug on the wooden floor makes the room feel cosy along with big lamps and sofas. This would be an ideal room to get everyone together for a special night in. There is also plenty of leafy green foliage scattered throughout the room and some abstract art depicting a farmhouse and fields, apt given the location in the beautiful Lothian country. Adding to the grandeur of this room are the sliding wooden pass doors leading to the dining area and give you the best of both worlds instead of choosing between open or closed plan.

The dining area is another room with dual aspect windows, and facing the rear of the home are patio doors leading to the slabbed garden area. The design makes great use of shapes, with a round marble effect table placed directly below a low hanging circular ceiling light. Meanwhile, the large square rug adds some lines to the room and looks great in front of the French doors. The seats are a soft fabric and in an abstract way, with their black legs, look like a little flock of sheep. There’s also further seating provided by the stools at the breakfast bar facing into the kitchen.

The hob sits pride of place in the centre of the kitchen, a great way of adding some theatre to your cooking especially when you have guests at the dining table. The worktops are similar to the dining table with a marble effect pattern and there is an abundance of space for preparing food. There is a mix of two different cabinet doors, with full height black on one wall, and staggered white doors around the rest of the kitchen. This contrast breaks up the space. Similarly, the breakfast bar is a dark wood, against the white of the marble. Off the kitchen, you also have a utility area with room for a washing machine and tumble dryer to be installed.

We have also used the show home to portray the potential of what you can do with your outdoor space. This specific plot benefits from a lush mature treeline running as far as the eye can see in both directions; one of the perks of buying a home somewhere like Haddington is that you’re never too far from nature. We have added two slabbed seating areas with a shelter over one at the back. There’s also some landscaping and lattice added to the fences. The garden is a blank canvas for you to create an enjoyable outdoor space for your family.

Moving back inside, the final room on the ground floor is a W.C. located under the hallway stairs. A downstairs bathroom offers great convenience, and we have chosen to continue the marble theme, with half height tiling around the walls. There’s also a stylish slimline sink with a handy cupboard underneath for keeping spare toiletries, and a wall mirror with a glowing frame giving a modern touch.

At the head of the stairs, we find bedroom 1. There is a lot to appreciate in here. The first thing to grab our attention is the massive four poster bed with curtains and tasselled tiebacks, a nod to the more traditional stylings which works so well in the space. Even with such a large piece of furniture in the room, there is still room for two comfortable armchairs and a coffee table to comfortably occupy the space without smothering it. And providing you with even more space is a walk in wardrobe, where we have placed a large mirror ideal for making sure you look great every time you step out of the house.

The hits just keep coming, with an en-suite bathroom giving you the ultimate pamper station. There is a large walk in shower, sanitaryware, and a large towel warmer, and the full room has marble effect tiling to give a classy finish.

Bedroom 2 extends the same level of luxury, with a sliding door fitted wardrobe, en-suite, and storage cupboard. This bedroom is decorated with neutral tones and warm bedside lighting to set the tone for relaxation. Bedrooms 3 & 4 also have a fitted wardrobe built in.

Bedroom 4 has a unique vibe, with a fluorescent white sign reading ‘chillax’ above the bed set against a dark grey wall. The upstairs hallway has a gallery area with a window looking out to the front of the property, where we have opted for some comfortable seating and a large plant. You could do whatever you want with this spot in your home to create a point of interest. Finally, the upper floor is home to the family bathroom which is decorated in a similar fashion to the en-suites. With a floating sink, bathtub, and half height marble tiling around all walls, it’s a fashionable and relaxing room.

Thus concludes the tour of the Mackenzie at Lethington Gardens.
